Also, please make note that each week two spelling grid assignments are due, unless otherwise specified in the newsletter.                           We continue to work on mysteries in both reading and writing workshop.   In math, we begin learning about the correlation between addition and subtraction and the properties of addition and subtraction equations this week.  In science, we are creating a cell and learning the parts of both animal and plant cells.  Our word study feature this week is the hard g and soft g sound.  In social studies, we will be celebrating freedom week and comparing our national anthem and our Arkansas state song.

Parents, in effort to make sure that assignments are turned in each week on Friday in the homework folder, I am asking for your help on Thursday evening.  Please check your students folder to make sure that the following homework assignments are ready to be turned in.  These assignments are graded and do impact your students progress in fourth grade.

· TWO SPELLING GRIDS-ONE FOR DEFINE AND ONE FOR SPELLING

· MATH CLOSEST TO 100  (EXTRA CREDIT-OPTIONAL)

· MATH PRACTICE

· CURRENT EVENTS (SEE BELOW)

· READ 30 MINUTES EACH NIGHT FOR A TOTAL OF 150 MINUTES WEEKLY/SIGN READING LOG WEEKLY & TURN IN EACH FRIDAY IN HOMEWORK FOLDER

Also, in  order to help you and your students, we will start listing all assignments assigned on Mondays and due Fridays on our planner.  We will continue to give you everything for the week on Monday in the homework folder and on the website.  All assignments will still be due on Friday.  However, if we list them in the planner as well, we hope that it will serve as a visual reminder of what is due each week.

Parents, we need your help!

Current Events Homework Weekly

A  current event report is due each week for social studies.  This should not be a difficult homework assignment  since students need only listen or watch a newsworthy program.  If it is a t.v. or radio broadcast, the student should just write a few brief

details from the story.  If the news is from the internet or newspaper, the student only needs to bring the printed copy of the story to class in the homework folder each week and be prepared to talk about it briefly.  I will be showing some good

examples this week so your student sees what to expect.  If your family does not get the newspaper, I will keep a few in our classroom and the student is welcome to use them as a resource for their story.
